Mozirska hut is a popular destination for hikers, mountaineers, skiers, and other visitors seeking a getaway in nature. In addition to tasty homemade food and a pleasant atmosphere, it also offers comfortable accommodation for those who wish to extend their stay.

Mozirska hut on Golte is a popular mountain hut located at an altitude of 1356 meters on Golte, a well-known skiing and tourist center in Slovenia. Surrounded by lush forests, it offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, extending all the way to Mount Oljka, the Celje basin, and Menina planina. Mozirska hut on Golte is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the pristine beauty of the mountain world. A marked hiking trail leads to Mozirska hut from Žekovec (2 hours and 15 minutes), or you can drive to the Alpine Garden, which is a 5-minute walk from the hut.

Mozirska koča is wheelchair accessible, with an elevator inside the hut leading to private rooms on the first floor. The ground floor and first floor also have adapted sanitary facilities for wheelchair users. From Mozirska hut, wheelchair users can access the hotel on Golte; the path is partly gravel, and the final stretch towards the hotel is paved. There is also a cable car leading to the hotel on Golteh, which is accessible to people with disabilities.

HIKING TRAILS

During your stay at Mozirska hut, you can embark on shorter hikes in the surrounding area. One of the most famous is the Path around Golte, where you will enjoy views of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The trail is marked as easy and is easily traceable, taking about 2 and a half hours, making it suitable for families with children. We recommend bringing enough water, some food, and appropriate footwear. Additionally, having a camera with you won't be unnecessary, as you'll be surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Golte Landscape Park throughout the hike.

Signs with the names of themed trails accompany you throughout the entire hike around Golte. Zajčkova pot (Rabbit Trail) is a shorter circular route suitable for smaller children, as the hike takes about an hour and a half. For more experienced hikers, we recommend hiking to Boskovec or Smrekovec. If you head towards Boskovec, you will cross Janezov bivouac along the way, from where you will have a panoramic view of the entire Savinja Valley.

HISTORY OF THE HUT

The first Mozirska hut was built by the Savinja branch of the Slovene Mountaineering Association (SPD) and opened on October 5, 1896. It was enlarged and renovated in 1920, and in 1929, an additional building was constructed primarily for skiers. In 1933, mountaineers from Mozirje built another hut, but during World War II, in 1942, all three structures were burnt down by the Germans. In 1946, mountaineers from Celje built a new hut, which unfortunately burned down in a forest fire in July 1950. A new hut was opened just a year later. In 1973, the Celje Mountaineering Association sold the hut, and the annex was converted for use by mountain rescuers. In 1984, the hut was taken over by the Mozirje Mountaineering Association, which thoroughly renovated it, as they did again in 2011. The hut was destroyed by fire again in the fall of 2021, but the mountaineers from Mozirje opened a new, modern mountain hut in July 2023.
